Storyteller, singer/songwriter Evie Boss invites the audience to revisit familiar fairy tales to empower
imagination and creativity by singing her original songs from the perspectives of a variety of characters.
What would the "ugly duckling" say to his foster mom when he returns as a beautiful swan?
What is the real reason for Red Riding Hood's decision to stray off the path through the woods?
What does the little bear want to say to Goldilocks?
If a princess is bothered by a mere pea under 20 mattresses what else is she picky about?
Does the mirror enjoy telling the truth to the wicked stepmother?
If the witch really wanted to catch children to eat why was her gingerbread house so far away?...
"A Fresh Take on Fairy Tales" is designed to get young
people and adults thinking about the universal themes (sibling rivalry, consequences of jealousy and
greed, finding your own way through challenges, the hero's journey of self discovery...) found in fairy
tales and to encourage original creative interpretation and expression. Thus it is designed for children
starting in 4th grade through adults.
There is a whole generation of adults whose knowledge of fairy tales is based upon videos. Watching a video
is a passive experience that does not engage the imagination. The telling of fairytales is a part of our oral
tradition and a cornerstone of our culture as these stories are from around the world. Evie is currently working
on recording the songs and writing a book with ideas to encourage teachers and parents to offer a multiple
intelligence approach and thus "A Fresh Take on Fairy Tales".
